Snow

Some things never cease to amaze me.  Snow, with high albedo, reflect light even at low levels.  It was pitch black around 6pm today in our backyard. After few hours of snow, I noticed it became bright outside. Here is a picture I took after midnight, without flash or any light in our backyard.  Is it amazing?

Thanksgiving

It's my first time cooking a whole Thanksgiving meal! It took me a while to prepare the menu and gather the recipes.... What's on the menu? Cracker 'n' hummus and chips 'n' guacamole as appetizers; curry pumpkin soup; turkey; dressing (stuffing); honey baked ham; cranberry sauce; mashed potatoes; marshmallow yam; garlic bread; dinner rolls; herb butter; green bean casserole (thanks for Edda); grilled vegetable; pumpkin pie (thanks for Nicole); and pecan pie. I am very glad they all turned out good. Check out the pictures here.

Birthdays & Halloween pictures

It's been a while since the last time I posted some photos on my site. Here are some recent pictures from Amanda's birthday, my birthday, and Adam's birthday. And also some pictures from few Halloween parties this year.

Clumsy Sandy

I didn’t even know I am that clumsy until I sprang my angle while moving boxes down stair. And to top that… when I was washing a BIG beverage jar, I was trying to shake the soap water inside to clean it… it hit the counter and broke off. I got a lateral laceration on my wrist. Ha… it’s a sensitive area to have a laceration. Adam had to bring me to the emergency room on Sat. night at 10pm. Luckily, the deeper cut is on the side and has missed all the artery and tendon.

Here is the picture of the broken jar.

Wine and Food Grand Tasting

It’s our 1st year wedding anniversary. We decided to celebrate it with a bunch of friends in Park City for their Wine and Food Grand Tasting. A lot of great Park City restaurants provide wine and food at The Canyons Forum. Check out the pictures here.

Freestyle jumping

In Olympic Park, they have water ramps that allow people to practice Freestyle jumping all year around. I took a short video clip here. Check it out. So in wintertime, they jump into snow, and in summertime, they jump into pool. It's really cool.

iPhone

My funny, boy, is so excited that the Apple iPhone launch today. We went to the Apple store in SLC just to play with it. I have to admit, the iPhone is really cool. The google map, the web browser, the photo, the video, the youtube, etc. All pretty much live up to the promise. Ha….. he walked out of the store with an iPhone… even I wanted one… but hmmm…. So expensive…. Maybe I will wait for the 2nd generation.
Here is Adam trying to activate his iPhone on iTune.

New York visit

Patty got married in NYC last weekend. A group of our high school girlfriends met up there with our the other half, and more... to celebrate this happy happy occasion.
Can you believe it may be more than 15 years ago since the last time we were all together? Time flew! Check out the photos under 2007,
New York.

Downtown

Living in the downtown condo for a little less than 4 years, it maybe time to move on. I still love it here, it’s like a small oasis in the great Salt Lake. Most of the downtown restaurants and bars are all in walking distance. The people who live here are all nice, friendly, and unique. Some said it’s like a Melrose Place. I also met Adam in this little oasis. However, even though it’s in a great location, it’s a fairly small place. We started running out of room. I really love living here. We may move out this summer, but I would surly miss it.

Pride Parade

Ever since being in the St. Patrick day parade, I realized it’s more fun to be in the parade than watching the parade. The Utah Pride Festival is a festival held in downtown Salt Lake City celebrating diversity. Thanks for Slug Magazine and Carmen, I got a chance to participate in the parade. We were the pink team. Check out the pictures here.

Painting

Painting the bathroom was more work than we expected. The previous owner, Tanya, for some reasons, decided to paint the bathroom dark blue. With how small our bathroom is, it made the room smaller. Here was our photo in progress. It turns out good. We like it! :) Check out the photos here.

I-House scrapbook

Chatting with Hilary remind me of the good old I-House time. I met so many good lifetime friends. I remembered I made a scrapbook for Stephen, Jake, and me. I dug out a scanned version of the scrapbook I made for myself. Click here to view them. Hilary, it’s so good to hear your voice again. Cherie Berry, where are you? I would LOVE to hear from you again!

Family portrait

We took family portrait during the Chinese New Year visit in L.A. Check them out under 2007, Family photos.

Social Networks

There are so many online social networks...... online photo sharing sites.......
Do I want so many…. Not really…. It’s so hard to keep tracking, visiting, or even updating every one of them…… But different group of friends use different sites....  I want to view their photos and/or keep in touch with them…. So I registered in different sites....
Let's count how many I am registered currently.....
Social network -
Friendster, myspace, Multiply, MSN space, Hyves, linkedIn.... I think that's it for now......
Photo sharing -
Snapfish, Shutterfly, Kodakgallery, Ringo, Flickr....  I think that's it for now as well.....
Even though it’s hard…. I shall try to keep in touch with all my friends around the world!  ;)
Love you all!

The Arch National Park

Patrick and Vicky came to visit Utah! It was really nice to finally meet Patrick! Check out the pictures here. Especially for our Arch National Park trip. Yes, after living in Utah for over 4 years, I finally made it to the arches. The weather was amazing. Sunny, high 74..... I believe all of us got some color. It was a great trip.

Club Sound

We went to see Rabbit in the moon on Sat. night, which happened to be St. Patrick’s Day.  Adam and I met up with Aaron, Nicole, Elliot, and his wife.  Perfect night for clubbing and green beer.  There are so many young people there… made us feel so old.  Some of the young kids, wearing just their underwear in the club, dancing on the floor, or even in the cage.   When I said young… I really meant young…. They looked like 14-15…. When I said underwear… I really meant underwear….. some of them with just bra and panty…. Adam said “it’s scary what kind of influence Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have on the young kids nowadays”… but according to my weird cynical theory, Utah is too oppressed, and people found “interesting” way to vent.  I am not a really big techno music fan.  But it was a fun night.

Love and loneliness in Taiwan

I came across an interesting article. “Love and loneliness in Taiwan”.
Writer, David Signer, is a Swiss anthropologist who stayed in Taiwan for 2 weeks. The article was published in German area in Switzerland. Then, it was translated into Dutch, from Dutch to English, and from English to Chinese. It is interesting to see how westerners view Taiwan as a country and the culture of the people who live there.
Here are the full 4 versions.

~ more

~ more

Love and loneliness in Taiwan (English)
The original article is written by a Swiss anthropologist David Signer. Twenty years ago Taiwan changed from a dictatorial country towards a democracy. This process speeded up to a fast modernization of the country. ~
